This pâté is often served in Portugal as an aperitif. Delicious with some bread and a glass of wine! If there is some pâté left over, you can keep it covered in the fridge for another week.
Preparation
1 Drain the sardines in a sieve (if necessary, save the oil for other preparations). Scrape the skin off the fish and remove the bones. You will see that the fish breaks easily, but this is not a problem for further preparation.
2 Put the sardines with the butter and lemon juice in a food processor and add pepper and salt. Mix to a firm mass with a slightly coarse texture. Taste and season further if necessary.
3 Spoon the pâté into a dish and leave to set in the fridge for one hour. Serve with drinks on toast or eat on a sandwich.
