Ingredients

  • 141-ounce fresh mussels in the shell, cleaned
  • 1/2 -ounce grams of butter
  • 2 onions, cut into rings
  • 1 leek, the white cut into rings
  • 2 tbsp parsley, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Eastern Scheldt water (or just water from the tap with some salt)

How to prepare

Looking for a simple but delicious recipe? Then go for these mussels in water. In this recipe we use Eastern Scheldt water, but of course the mussels can also be boiled in salted tap water.

Preparation

  • 1 Melt the butter in the pan. Add onion and leek and keep heating and stirring, but they must not start to colour. Do this for about a minute.
  • 2 Now add the water and then immediately the mussels. Put the lid on the pan.
  • 3 Wait for the mussels to boil. Take the lid off the pan and shake the mussels well. Put the lid back and repeat this two more times (wait for them to boil and then shake them). Once the mussels have cooked three times, check the shells. Take the pan off the fire, sprinkle the parsley over the mussels and serve immediately. Dispose of shells that have remained closed.
