  • 1 shallot, chopped fine
  • 1 clove of garlic, chopped fine
  • 8 stalks parsley
  • 1 stick of celery, chopped in rings

How to prepare

To celebrate the opening of the Dutch mussels season and the launch of our own Fish Tales mussels, I am making my take on super simple steamed mussels! These mussels are from the Oosterschelde and are 100% from Zeeland and grown in those waters. Cooked with just a few simple ingredients, you really can taste the sea. Enjoy!

Preparation

  • 1 Chop a shallot fine.
  • 2 Chop a clove of garlic fine.
  • 3 Wash one celery stick and cut off the ends. Slice it one time in the length and after in small rings.
  • 4 Use the leaves of 5 or 6 parsley stalks. Use the stalks to make for the stock.
  • 5 Bring some olive oil in a pan to medium heat and add the shallot, garlic, parsley stalks and celery rings. Give it one or two minutes and add two tablespoons of water.
  • 6 Check all mussels and throw away the broken ones. Add the mussels to the pan and give it a stir. Bring your hob to high, high heat and close it wit a lid. Check after 1-2 minutes if all mussels are open.
  • 7 Chop some more parsley and add it to the pan. Let the mussels cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • 8 Scoop the mussels out of the pan into a big bowl and pour some of the water from the pan over the mussels. Let's have a taste now! Enjoy your simple steamed mussels.
